Installing Desktop Web Proxy Using Group Policy Object

You can install and deploy Desktop Web Proxy (DWP) using Group Policy Object (GPO). This method of installation requires that you are experienced with Microsoft's Active Directory and that you are using GPO in your environment.

Prerequisites

  • Shared network resource where install package and files will be called.
  • Read and execute permissions on the network share for users who will be affected by install.
  • User accounts/computer impacted must reside in affected OU or have GPO linked.

Note: Domain replication times can vary, and may take a while to update, so you may want to force the update, by adding a Group Policy update command to the Computer Configuration Startup script if needed.

To install DWP using GPO:

  • From the Domain Controller, select Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Group Policy Management.
  • Do either of the following:
    • Select an existing GPO that you would like to add these settings to.
    • Create a new GPO you would like to add these settings to.
  • Under Computer Configuration select Policies > Software Settings > Software Installation.
  • From Software Installation, right-click and select New Package.
  • Select the path to the MSI package that you want to install and associate files.
  • Make sure that Read and Execute permissions have been given to users.
  • Make sure the deployment method is properly assigned.
  • Make sure the new software install package has been created with path given.

Note: Reboot is required on PC's targeted for installation.
